การทดสอบ PD จะเป็นไปตามมาตรฐาน IEC60270 และ IEC60034-27 โดยการเลือกใช้ Coupling capacitor เป็นเซ็นเซอร์หลัก ซึ่งสามารถตรวจวัดได้ทั้งในรูปแบบออนไลน์และออฟไลน์ สามารถทราบถึงสภาพและบ่งชี้ถึงปัญหาในรูปแบบต่างๆของฉนวน Stator พร้อมข้อแนะนำในการวางแผนการปฏิบัติงานต่อไป

สำหรับการทดสอบ PD ของหม้อแปลงไฟฟ้า สามารถเลือกใช้ได้หลายวิธีตามความเหมาะสม โดยการทดสอบในรูปแบบออฟไลน์จะเป็นไปตามมาตรฐาน IEC60270 สำหรับรูปแบบออนไลน์ Acoustic emission หรือ UHF จะถูกนำมาประยุกต์ใช้ ซึ่งในแต่ละวิธีสามารถระบุถึงปัญหาของฉนวนภายในหม้อแปลงไฟฟ้า
